Unexpected reproductive behaviour in Avar society: new revelations thanks to a unique DNA study
An international team of geneticists, archaeologists, anthropologists and historians, led by Zuzana Hofmanová from the Institute of Archaeology and Museology of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University, has managed to reconstruct the deepest genetically documented family tree ever. The study revealed, among other things, that Avar communities strictly adhered to the patrilineal system and that women played a key role in the social cohesion of society.
